Crawling for a Cause…2nd Annual Jr. Women’s Club Pub Crawl this Saturday!

What has three stops, about 200 legs, a few stumbles, lots of drinks, and even more laughs? It’s the Crown City Crawl, and it’s coming to Coronado this Saturday, April 28th. An afternoon and evening of drinks, appetizers and music, locals will embrace the small town feel and celebrate the giving spirit of the community.  The event kicks off the VFW at 3:30pm, then moves to Costa Azul and McPs.

I caught up with Megan Settle West from the Coronado Junior Women’s Club to talk about the event.

“This is our spring fundraiser for the Coronado Jr. Women’s Club so we are raising money…but it feels like an afternoon or night out at a party!” says Megan. “We expect about 100 people, and everyone is excited to be there. The energy level is high.”

The tickets are $40 through April 27th, and $50 at the door. Each ticket gets you a Crown City Crawl bracelet, a commemorative beer koozie, three drink tickets, bar bingo game cards and drink specials at each stop.

“New to this year is the idea of checking into a location (VFW) and we’ll have games like corn hole and flip cup set up to play,” says Megan. “We’ll also do the raffle before we head off to the second stop.”

Up for grabs at this year’s raffle include some awesome prizes…facials by Natalie Falletta Skincare, acupuncture, gift cards to local restaurants, a month of free gym membership, a Concert in the Park package from Coronado Hardware, and lots more.

“And we will be playing Bar Bingo at each location which definitely gets the crowd going!”

Caught on Camera: Village Art Auction

The Coronado Village Elementary Art Auction colored the night with some cool, original art work. It all went down last night at the Coronado Municipal Golf Course. Students (with the help of a parent volunteer) created fun pieces ranging from collages and paintings to a skateboard and a tire swing!

Here are the pics in case you missed it!

I Saw it: Bad Moms Christmas!

Bad Moms AND Christmas…how could you go wrong? If that’s not a recipe for a mother-effer of a holiday movie, I don’t know what is.  So I grabbed four of the worst, most badly-behaved moms I know, packed a box of wine in my friend’s Louie, and headed out to the Lot at Liberty Station to see the show.

Like most of the modern world, I loved the fearless hilarity and fiery spunk of the first Bad Moms. The sarcastic, no  f—ks given approach won me over long before they trashed that grocery store.

You’ll find some of that clever, nervy fun in Bad Mom’s Christmas, and plenty of “Ho ho ho-ing” around. But before you watch the moms get drunk in the food court and deck the halls with a stolen Christmas tree from Foot Locker, keep in mind…this is a sequel! You won’t find the same brave novelty of the first film, and things DO get a little sentimental when all of the mothers of the Bad Moms appear and shake up the snow globe.

An untenably funny Christine Baranski plays mom to the Mila Kunis character, bringing more ice to the screen than an arctic glacier.  The strangely needy yet endearing Cheryl Hines plays the mom of Kristen Bell, and my favorite—the ageless Susan Sarandon—plays the gambling, hitch-hiking, pot-smoking mom of badass Carla.

A lot of people in our group expressed displeasure that the movie wasn’t as light and funny as the first film, and it does get more serious as the characters explore the relationships with their own moms. (To be honest, I actually found myself enjoying the deeper moments with the moms and it didn’t really bother me too much.)

Was it as funny as the first one? Probably not, but that’s not a terrible thing. You still get to watch the moms twerk with Santa Claus and open up a can of whoop-ass on a shopping mall.

But please. Do yourself a favor. This movie is meant to be enjoyed in person at the theater, with your best girlfriends (preferably decked out in Christmas sweaters, see below) and a glass—nay bottle—of wine. This film, like many things in life, is about the experience…not the details.

Just don’t get carried away and put too much brandy in your eggnog, or you’ll wind up in an uber with a clean up charge on your bill.

(Hallelujah! Holy sh*t! Where’s the Tylenol?)

Caught on Camera: Hallowine and Spirits at the Hotel Del

Spooks and spirits and sequins, oh my! The Hotel Del pulled out all the stops on its annual “Hallowine and Spirits” Soiree. The glammed-out Garden Patio beckoned with savory meats, cheeses and poke, fine wine flowed like blood, and guests dazzled and danced the night away in the world-famous Crown Room. Don’t believe me? Take a look!

Nighty-night! And HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

A Party Worth Dying For: Adults-Only Soiree Raises Hell at the Hotel Del this Saturday Night!

This is NOT your kid’s Halloween party. DJs and dancing, drinks and decadence…a few tricks and a LOT of treats are in store for guests at the Del’s annual “Hallowine and Spirits” party! It all happens this Saturday, October 28th at the Hotel Del at 7pm. We caught up with Gina Petrone of the Hotel Del for a sneak peak.

The theme: American Horror Hotel. (Don’t be scared!)  Well-costumed adults will linger and mingle over gourmet offerings in the Hotel Del Garden Patio including smoked bone pig, sumptuous artisan cheeses, a poke station, and other culinary delights. The Del’s wine partners will lurk about, pouring distinctive and delightful wine samples, making it the perfect time to savor the spooky décor and check out everyone’s costumes.

“Keep an eye out for a special guest appearance from our resident ghost, Kate Morgan,” says Gina.

And don’t forget about the (demonic) desserts! Feast on delectable dishes like Fresh Eye-Balls in Blood Gravy, a Black Widow Spider glass, and Coagulated Blood Jelly. How’s that for appetizing?

At 9pm, everyone moves into the famous Crown Room for drinks and dancing. DJ Spencer Bezy will spin unearthly dance beats as the ballroom morphs into an fearsome fete, worthy of the even the most psychedelic psycho-killer. (Be sure to keep an eye out for the American Horror Hotel dancers.)

And don’t forget the crowning of this year’s best costume and a chance to win a thrilling prize! Party-goers can sign up to compete for “Best Couple’s Costume,” “Most Creative” and “Best Overall.”

“Each winner gets an overnight stay at the Del and dinner for two at 1500 Ocean,” says Gina.

Now that’s a prize worth killing for!
